In the pursuit of creating a more inclusive and equitable society, United Way India, a healthcare NGO in India, has launched a groundbreaking program called “Garima.” This initiative is dedicated to providing a dignified and respectable living for individuals from marginalized communities, including LGBTQIA+, differently-abled individuals, and people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV). Through Garima, United Way India is actively promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity, paving the way for building equitable communities throughout India.

At the heart of Garima lies the profound commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity. United Way India firmly believes that every individual, regardless of their background, deserves equal opportunities to thrive and lead a fulfilling life. By extending support to marginalized communities, Garima, along with its role as an NGO in promoting gender equality, aims to break down barriers and eliminate stigmas that hinder the progress of these individuals.

Empowering Marginalized Communities:

The impact of Garima is already evident, with over 15,000 beneficiaries benefitting from the program in the 2022-23 period. Each of these beneficiaries represents a life touched, a dream empowered, and a future filled with hope. Garima’s reach extends beyond geographic boundaries, transcending barriers and making a difference in the lives of individuals who have historically faced discrimination and exclusion.

Garima provides a dignified and respectable living to the cohort. Social prejudices, lack of formal education, skills, training opportunities, and financial constraints make it difficult for this community to have access to basic rights and dignity. Unemployment is the most common concern and the vicious cycle of stigma keeps the community aloof, leading them into poverty, poor healthcare and social evils. Garima is bridging this gap through training, enhancing vocational skills, career development and capacity building among the cohort with over 15,000+ beneficiaries till now in ’22-23.
